Our big trip for 2024 is spending our seventeen days in Peru. For both of us we have always wanted to see the magical Machu Picchu high in the Andes. Plus, for me I have been keen on spending time in the Amazon jungle and experiencing its wildlife in person.
I have spent significant time organizing our itinerary and determining where we will focus our time. To travel to and from South America is not easy from Vancouver. You always need to connect through either Toronto or Montreal and then onto to Bogota, Columbia with a transfer to Lima, Peru.
Prior to our travel we are both looking forward to each day, but especially our visit to Machu Picchu (Sept. 19th), four nights (Sept. 9th to 12th) in an eco-lodge (Refugio Amazona) in the Amazon jungle and many visits to Incan sites that are close to Cusco which was the capital of the Incan empire. We are hoping to reach Rainbow Mountain (see pic below) with our rental car when staying in Cusco.
Vinicunca or Montana de Site Colores at 5200 metres elevation.
Besides the usual tourist sites will be the cuisine, drinks, lifestyle and culture of Peru to enjoy. We have never been to South America so this trip will be even more special. I have purchased an eSIM card so I can use data and avoid roaming charges with Rogers.
We had thought of titling our blog "In Search of Paddington Bear" given Lana is a huge fan of that series. Most people may not get the reference. Paddington Bear originated in Peru.
I cannot promise I will be able to blog at the conclusion of each day, but will try to keep us as current as possible. Pretty exciting!
